Successful entrepreneur, Gennaro Abignano, one of Australia’s leading figures in the construction industry will speak about his family background in Italy, the final years of WWII and the hardships that local villagers faced during those times.

Gennaro comes from the Campania region of Italy and arrived in Australia in 1957 with only 30 pounds in his pocket. From the late 1950s ~ 1986 he built a successful construction business which in 1981 was listed on the stock exchange as G Abignano Limited.

In 1986, due to illness, he reduced his shareholding and resigned as CEO and from the Board. The company then changed name to ABIGROUP Ltd (short for Abignano) and remained one of Australia’s leading construction companies building motorways, bridges, dams, buildings & other major infrastructure works.

Gennaro is also Chairman of Montoro Olive Groves at Hillston in Central NSW. The 700ha property has 110,000 olive trees from which they produce premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil that is exported around the world.
